Fundacja Jérôme’a Lejeune’a z zadowoleniem przyjmuje projekt „Zatrzymaj aborcję” – będący obecnie przedmiotem debaty w Polskim Parlamencie – jako cenną inicjatywę mającą na celu potwierdzenie prawdziwej równości pomiędzy osobami z niepełnosprawnościami i osobami pełnosprawnymi.
Państwo zaprzeczyłoby samemu sobie – z jednej strony potwierdzając, że osoby z niepełnosprawnościami mają takie same prawa jak pozostali, a z drugiej strony – zezwalając na ich eliminację przed narodzeniem na podstawie ich niepełnosprawności. Oznaczałoby to, że życie osoby niepełnosprawnej jest mniej warte niż życie osoby pełnosprawnej.
Możliwość wyeliminowania nienarodzonego dziecka – aż do jego urodzenia – na podstawie niepełnosprawności jest poważnym naruszeniem praw osób niepełnosprawnych. W rzeczywistości, tak jak przypomniał Komitet ONZ ds. Praw Osób Niepełnosprawnych 6 października 2017 r. „przepisy prawne, które wyraźnie zezwalają na aborcję ze względu na upośledzenie naruszają Konwencję o Prawach Osób Niepełnosprawnych (art. 4, 5, 8)”.
W związku z tym, Polski Parlament przyjmując projekt ustawy o równości pomiędzy pełnosprawnymi i niepełnosprawnymi dziećmi przed narodzeniem, dostosuje przepisy prawa polskiego do wymagań prawa międzynarodowego.
Wówczas Rzeczpospolita Polska będzie mogła stać się wzorem na naśladowania przez inne kraje na całym świecie. W istocie wszystkie kraje zobowiązane są do przyjęcia takiego ustawodawstwa chroniącego osoby niepełnosprawne, które mają – należy pamiętać – takie samo prawo do życia jak inni.
Fundacja Jérôme’a Lejeune’a kontynuuje pracę profesora Jérôme’a Lejeune’a, który w 1959 r. odkrył genetyczną przyczynę występowania zespołu Downa.
Dziś, wdowa po profesorze Jérôme Lejeunie – Mme Lejeune, prezes Fundacji Jérôme’a Lejeune’a – Jean-Marie Le Méné, dyrektor Fundacji Jérôme’a Lejeune’a oraz wiceprezydent Europejskiej Federacji dla Życia i Godności Człowieka One of Us – Thierry de La Villejégu, wyrazili życzenie, aby projekt ustawy „Zatrzymaj aborcję” został przyjęty przez Polski Parlament w celu ochrony szczególnie nienarodzonych dzieci z zespołem Downa, które są pierwszymi ofiarami selekcji prenatalnej.
The Jérôme Lejeune Foundation supports the Polish bill for Equality with persons with disabilities
The Jérôme Lejeune Foundation welcomes the bill currently debated in the Polish Parliament as a valuable initiative to affirm the real equality between people with and without disabilities.
A State would contradict itself by – on one hand – affirming that persons with disabilities have the same rights than others, and – on the other hand – allowing their elimination before birth on the basis of their disability. This would mean that the life of a person with disability is less valued than the life of a person with no disability.
The possibility of eliminating an unborn baby – up to his/her birth – on the basis of his/her disability is a serious violation of the rights of persons with disabilities. Indeed, as the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recalled it last October 6th 2017, “Laws which explicitly allow for abortion on grounds of impairment violate the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Art. 4, 5, 8).”
Therefore, by adopting the bill restoring equality between disabled and non-disabled unborn babies, the Polish Parliament would bring the Republic of Poland into conformity with the international law.
Then, the Republic of Poland would become a model to be followed by countries all around the world. Indeed, all countries are called upon to adopt such a protective legislation for persons with disabilities who have – it should be remembered – the same right to live than others.
The Jérôme Lejeune Foundation carries on the work of Professor Jérôme Lejeune who discovered the genetic origin of Down syndrome in 1959 (Lejeune, Gautier, Turpin).
Today, his widow, Mrs Jérôme Lejeune, the President of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation Mr Jean-Marie Le Méné and the Director of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation and Vice-President of the European Federation One of Us Mr Thierry de La Villejégu express the wish to see this bill for Equality being adopted by the Polish Parliament in order to protect especially unborn babies with Down syndrome who are the first victims of prenatal selection.
Pour l’égalité avec les personnes handicapées : la Fondation Jérôme Lejeune soutient la proposition de loi polonaise
La Fondation Jérôme Lejeune salue la proposition de loi actuellement en débat au sein du Parlement polonais et reconnaît dans cette proposition une heureuse initiative visant à affirmer l’égalité réelle entre les personnes handicapées et non-handicapées.
Un Etat se contredit en affirmant que les personnes handicapées ont les mêmes droits que les autres lorsque, dans le même temps, il permet leur élimination in utero sur le critère du handicap. Ceci signifie que la vie d’une personne handicapée vaut moins que la vie d’une personne non-handicapée.
La possibilité d’éliminer un enfant à naître jusqu’au jour de sa naissance sur le critère de son handicap est une grave violation des droits des personnes handicapées. En effet, comme l’a rappelé le Comité des droits des personnes handicapées des Nations-Unies le 6 octobre 2017, « Les lois qui autorisent explicitement l’avortement en raison d’un handicap violent la Convention des droits des personnes handicapées (Art. 4, 5 et 8). ».
Ainsi le Parlement polonais, s’il adopte la proposition de loi rétablissant l’égalité entre bébés handicapés et non-handicapés, mettra son pays en conformité avec le droit international.
La République de Pologne deviendra alors un modèle pour le monde, tous les pays étant appelés à adopter une législation aussi protectrice des personnes handicapées qui ont, rappelons-le, autant le droit de vivre que les autres.

Aujourd’hui, sa veuve, Mme Jérôme Lejeune, le Président de la Fondation Jérôme Lejeune M. Jean-Marie Le Méné et le Directeur de la Fondation Jérôme Lejeune et Vice-Président de la Fédération européenne One of Us M. Thierry de La Villejégu appellent de leurs vœux le Parlement polonais à voter cette proposition de loi pour l’égalité qui protègera en tout premier lieu les bébés à naître porteurs de trisomie 21, premières victimes de la sélection prénatale.
